Behind the Scenes at Pinkly Perfect’s Fall Shoot

Nothing I love more than photoshoot day at Pinkly Perfect!

Even though by the time we’re shooting our latest products, I’ve already been staring at them for months and months, something about seeing them under bright lights and captured by a professional photographer makes them come to life in a whole new way.

Yesterday, after a very busy weekend closing out festival season, I headed over to Church Street Studios, LLC in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to shoot Pinkly Perfect’s Fall/Holiday capsule collection.

This was Pinkly Perfect’s third shoot and third time at Church Street Studios with Makeup by Emily Dimant and model Lauren O’Brien from Expressions Agency in Philadelphia and I LOVE the team of very talented women we’ve created and stuck with.

I’m not giving alllll the details away but wanted to give my blog readers a little sneak peek into some behind the scenes shots from yesterday’s shoot! To see more of them, follow us on Instagram and Facebook, where we’ll be announcing as soon as our fall line goes live on our website!

We don’t like school either!

Fall 2016 Festivals at the Jersey Shore

Written by: Sarah Haurin

Your Jersey Shore fun doesn’t have to end with the arrival of colder weather. Check out these fun fall festivals hosted in your favorite beach towns throughout the month of October 2016!

Love pumpkin spice everything? Check out any of the Oktoberfests being held at your favorite Jersey shore towns. Highlands (Oct. 1), Seaside Heights (Oct. 2), Belmar (Oct. 9), and Sea Isle City (Oct. 22) are each hosting their own German festivals throughout the month of October, and each promises food, games, music, and fun autumn activities for the whole family.

If you can’t get enough of The Walking Dead or simply love anything that calls for a costume, Highlands’ Zombie Fest is definitely for you. Put on your best zombie attire and march through town in a parade before enjoying food and drinks! The parade begins on October 15th at 10am in Huddy Park.

Anyone who wants to show off costume-making skills for anything other than the undead (or anyone who wants to show off his or her zombie costume more than once) can participate in the various parades hosted throughout October. Sea Isle’s parade on October 21 includes a dance party, and Cape May’s takes place on October 22.

Love costumes but not into the idea of dressing up yourself? Middletown’s Thompson Park Day may be just the event for you. Dress up your dog for their dog costume contest or simply enjoy the food, scarecrow contest, and pumpkin painting.

Whichever festival you choose to celebrate the beginning of cooler weather and pumpkin baked goods, you’ll be sure to have a blast while reminiscing on your summer beach memories in your favorite towns.

Pinkly’s End to a Perfect Festival Season

If you read our blog article on Pinkly Perfect’s Top 5 Summer 2016 Moments, then you know setting up shop at different festivals is one of my favorite things to do! Selling on our website and to boutiques is great of course, but nothing compares to being able to witness our customers’ excitement firsthand when they purchase Pinkly Perfect products.

This past weekend we had our last festival of 2016 at the 1st Annual Lower Gwynedd Pike Fest. Despite coming off of a very busy couple weeks and really needing a Saturday to catch up on sleep, this girl poured her first (of too many) cups of coffee at 4:18 AM (the usual for PP these days…) to get prepping for a big day of selling perfect beach-inspired clothes and accessories.

Selling at a festival may seem super easy but if you count all the traveling I’ve been doing from NYC to NJ to PA and back, it’s actually really exhausting. Physically setting up the tent and merchandise is difficult enough as it is (even with my wonderful mom helping me out).

Despite all of the stress that comes along with being a one-woman operation of a fast-growing company, I had the absolute BEST time closing out festival season. The Pike Fest was located minutes from where I grew up, right across the street from Gwynedd Mercy Academy, where I was lucky enough to attend elementary school.

Because of that, I had so many visitors from people who knew me when I was a little girl. Some of my grade school teachers, parents of my childhood friends, and local business owners who heard of Pinkly Perfect through the press, all stopped by to congratulate me and learn more about what I’ve been up to! Again, it was the BEST.

I am so lucky to have met and reconnected with such wonderful people who have offered their support as I follow my dream. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, shopped, or simply smiled. It has made the last five and a half months the most rewarding and inspiring!

Can’t wait to see you all again at next summer’s festivals! If I missed one of your favorites, let me know in the comments section!

Pinkly’s Perfect for Fall: Sneak Peek

Pinkly Perfect’s slogan is “capturing the magic of summer vacation all year for beach loving girls.” Yet somehow throughout the five and a half months since our launch, everyone I talk to has seemed convinced it was just a summer line. Which seems weird to me being that I’m capturing summer all year

Comments like that are what have driven me to make our first ever fall capsule collection even better than I originally imagined and I am SO excited about it that I needed to write a blog post and give my readers a little sneak peek of what I’ve been up to!

I’ve been a little quiet about it but that’s because I’ve been busy visiting stores along the Jersey shore and making appointments with new boutiques just as excited as I am about our latest arrivals. In the past two weeks, we’ve added three retailers to our list of where you can now shop Pinkly Perfect in person. So we’re up to 8. Not too bad if you ask me!

I’m saving a complete list of our new fall clothing and accessories for when we launch on our website next month, but wanted to give you a little teaser in the meantime.

In the picture above you can see our latest Avalon Sweatshirt, Montauk Tote, and Cape Cod Pouch. Currently you can shop the Cape Cod Pouch (yes, that’s pink glitter) at Groovy Girlz in Sea Isle City, NJ. Starting this weekend, you can also shop allllll our new arrivals at Serendipity Shops of Doylestown. This weekend, I’ll also have a booth at the Lower Gwynedd Pike Fest, where you can shop our perfect beach-inspired clothes and accessories and enjoy a little gift with purchase perfect for the school year.

In addition to our new arrivals, our Avalon Sweatshirts in grey and white and Margate Leggings are still absolutely perfect for cooler weather ahead. And I have to say as much as this girl loves her summers, I cannot wait for the temperatures to drop and enjoy lounging around in the leggings 24/7.

We also will be adding some new merchandise into the assortment, which I am keeping absolutely secret but you will definitely not want to miss it! In the meantime, shop our summer sale and start saving for all the perfect gifts you’ll be buying for your beach loving besties this fall and winter!

Perfect Fall Sunglasses

Summer may be starting to feel like forever ago but it’s always sunglasses season. We may be replacing the beach with football games but we still need to look cute and be protected from the sun. We searched all over for some (pinkly) perfect pairs that we can’t wait to keep rocking as we sip our pumpkin iced coffees and chat with our besties! Check out our picks below:

Shop Target for some perfect inexpensive pairs!

Target Women’s Clubmaster Sunglasses-Pink, $14.99

If you want something a little more subtle, check out Target Women’s Clubmaster Sunglasses. These are such a pale pink that they almost act as a neutral (meaning you can wear them with literally everything). We like these because you can even work them into your winter wardrobe paired with white, camel, and heather grey.

Flower sunglasses are the new heart-shaped sunnies. And I mean that in the way that I am totally obsessed and searched all summer long for the perfect pair. I ended up landing on these Jeepers Peepers Flower Sunglasses from ASOS (now on sale for $23! ) What I loved about these are that they make a statement but the colors are still subtle enough to work into a fall wardrobe. Add them to a simple black sweater dress once the temperatures start to drop and it’ll be like your carrying a little piece of summer with you!

Shop Pinkly Perfect at the Lower Gwynedd Pike Fest

What are you doing on Saturday, September 17th? If you’re in the Philadelphia area and love Pinkly Perfect, I hope the answer is shopping with me at the 1st Annual Pike Fest on Bethlehem Pike in Lower Gwynedd, PA.

One of my favorite things I’ve done this summer is set up a Pinkly Perfect booth at festivals along the Jersey shore where you can shop Pinkly Perfect in person (and with me!).

I love seeing people who have never heard of Pinkly Perfect before discover us and even more, I love hearing your comments on our perfect beach-inspired clothing and accessories.

This festival will be SO fun because I’ll be debuting our Fall/Holiday line before it’s up on the website! That’s right—first place you can lay your eyes on how I’m capturing the magic of summer vacation during the off-season. I know our merchandise will be (pinkly) perfect for gift-giving to all your summer loving besties.

The Pike Fest will also feature food trucks, live music, amusements, and free parking (at Gwynedd Mercy Academy Elementary School). If you can’t make it to the Pike Fest, you’ll also be able to shop our Fall line at Serendipity of Doylestown so make sure you visit our section in the back left of the store (look for the pink walls!).

Check out the Pike Fest on Facebook to learn more! Can’t wait to see you there! 🙂

Perfect Pink Accessories to Wear at School (Uniform or not)

Back to school. Ughh. Not our favorite time of the year but there’s actually some pretty great things that happen once the school year starts up again (and in fall in general).

One of those things is getting to spend every day with our besties again. Granted most of the time it may be in chemistry, but at least they’re there for some chit-chat in between classes or to catch eyes when your crush asks to borrow a pencil. Swoon.

Another fun thing about the new season is new excuses to shop for some clothes and accessories. If you’re like me and went to a school that required a uniform (Enjoy it ladies! You’ll miss these days), then you may think that you don’t get to experiment as much. Wrong! Below we listed some of our favorite pink accessories you can rock this school year whether you are lucky enough to wear kilts and knee socks or not.

Pinkly Perfect Pink Zip Code Bracelet:

If you’re a true summer-lover (which we’re guessing you are if you’re reading this blog!), then you’ll need some daily reminder of your favorite beach town while suffering through a boring history lesson. Pick up a leather, made in the USA, zip code bracelet for Jersey shore points like Avalon, Stone Harbor, Wildwood, Sea Isle City, and Ocean City, NJ. We recommend pink (obviously) but also comes in perfect summery colors like lilac, sea aqua, and coral. Buy them all so you can mix & match.

Pink Nail Polish:

Nail polish is one of the easiest ways to add some pink into your uniform look and there are so many different shades you can choose from depending on the week or your mood! We’re currently obsessed with Essie’s “delhi dance” while ColorClub’s Flamingo’s an old favorite. Have your besties over for a “Let’s Pretend It’s Summer Party” this fall and swap pinks for some variety.

Pink Hair Ties:

Who wears her hair down at an all-girls uniform high school? Unless it’s Monday and you’re still rocking your weekend hair before you absolutely have to shower, then you need some pink hair ties for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Invest in this pack of 100 pink, white, and purple hair ties for only $5.00 at ASOS. You’ll go through them quicker than you think.

Pinkly Perfect’s Top 5 Summer 2016 Moments

Labor Day Weekend’s always a bittersweet time of the year for me (and anyone else who is summer-obsessed). Although I continue to make some weekend trips to my favorite beach town in the fall and winter, I can’t help but notice the slightly slower pace after many shops and stores close their doors for the off-season. Kids are back in school, bikes are locked away, and lifeguards trade in their life savers for footballs.

This summer in particular, I am very emotional about the unofficial ending of my favorite season. I launched Pinkly Perfect on April 1st but the summer was when it came to life. Thinking back to Memorial Day Weekend, I am beyond overwhelmed with how much we (and I!) have grown and how many milestones we hit. Below I’ve listed my top 5 favorite summer moments for Pinkly Perfect:

5. Seeing the Pinkly Perfect display in stores for the first time.

Being a fashion designer, the excitement of seeing merchandise you designed in stores is something that we are used to. But when it’s your own brand and built off of a concept so special, the feeling’s completely different. Not only have I dreamed about having my own company some day, but I also always dreamed of seeing “Maddy Sasso-originals” out in the market. Through Pinkly Perfect, I was able to accomplish that this summer.

4. Getting stopped by strangers who recognized me from press and wanted to talk about Pinkly Perfect.

Pinkly Perfect has been lucky enough to get some pretty sweet press this summer. Our Instagram is also heavily followed and I document Avalon, NJ (my favorite beach) so much that somehow my name and/or face has been recognized when I least expect it. Getting caught off guard by people who love the brand as much as I do is actually the best feeling ever.

3. Skimmer Festival in Sea Isle City, NJ

The Skimmer Festival in Sea Isle City, NJ is number 3 on my list for a couple reasons. It was the first time I got to see so many people discover Pinkly Perfect (hint: their reactions were so sweet and supportive!) and it also reiterated what a great team of girls I have supporting me. My intern Melissa and Pinkly Perfect Contributor Amanda helped me all day long (it was a perfect beach day that they missed out on!) and I felt very lucky!

2. Glamour

There will never be another feeling like finding out that a article included you in their list of 20 girl bosses, quoted you, and linked to your website after being in business for only four and a half months. The hour long solo dance party in my NYC apartment as I was frantically texting my top besties that followed was also pretty spectacular.

1. Unexpectedly seeing our merchandise tagged on Insta/Facebook by happy customers

My goal for Pinkly Perfect is and always was to capture the magic of summer vacation all year for beach loving girls. To see that that’s actually the case AND that customers are loving the merchandise so much so that they’re posting about it on social media is so satisfying and motivates me to keep pushing out products perfect for my girls!

Girl Boss: Hannah Carmody of HanMade by Han

Last month I was lucky enough to meet fellow girl boss and Jersey shore lover, Hannah Carmody over iced coffees in our favorite beach town. She is the passionate girl boss behind HanMade By Han, a jewelry company inspired by her trips to the bead store in Stone Harbor, NJ. Learn more about her journey, challenges, and trend obsessions below.

PP: Thanks for meeting with me, Hannah! Let’s start with how you first got involved in jewelry design and what was the ah-ha moment when you realized you could turn your passion into a business?

HC: Ever since I was little, I have been going to Stone Harbor, New Jersey. When I was younger, I would go downtown to the little bead store for hours and hours! I loved all of the different ways to make accessories and the endless bead options. Two summers ago, I got to spend my summer working at the shore! Working at the make-your-own jewelry store was something I had always dreamed of. I started making HanMade originals and suddenly all of my friends wanted their own. When I got back to Penn State for my junior year, I realized that I could turn my passion for beading into my own business!

PP: So exciting! I remember spending rainy days at that bead store too! What has been your biggest challenge since running your own business and how have you overcome it?

HC: My biggest challenge has been making my company a well-known brand that all customers can trust. As a young entrepreneur, it is easy to have bigger retail stores take advantage of you. The best way to overcome that is to always stick up for yourself and focus on what makes your brand unique. If you can find a way to separate yourself from your competitors, people will support you.

PP: Agreed! What have you learned about yourself since starting your own business?

HC: My life motto has always been: do what you love, love what you do. I have learned that if you have the opportunity to take a passion and turn it into your own business, it doesn’t feel like work at all.

PP: Love that, Hannah. What advice would you give to high school girls in terms of branching out and starting their own company?

HC: My advice would be to find a mentor and ask a lot of questions. It is important to educate yourself and find people that can help you grow as a startup. When I was at Penn State, I loved taking classes on entrepreneurship. The classes allowed me to meet other students interested in starting their own business and develop all of the skills I needed to find success in the earliest stages of my venture.

PP: What is your favorite jewelry trend right now?

HC: My favorite jewelry trend right now: LAYERING! I think it’s fun to have your favorite everyday necklaces to layer with new pieces. There are so many ways to wear your favorites! I like to choose different lengths and shapes to make my own combinations. One of my favorite HanMade necklaces to layer is the Ellie! The elephant charm makes a statement and gives any outfit a little more personality.

Get your perfect layering pieces at!

PP: We’ll have to try it! What is your best seller?

HC: My best sellers have been the crystal collection. With many teardrop styles to choose from, girls love having two or three to switch up their look. The Dale is popular for day and the Nala is trendy for night.

PP: Finally, what is your favorite shore memory?

HC: My favorite shore memory is getting up early to go to the beach before the lifeguards arrive. Those mornings make me feel lucky to have such a beautiful setting, just blocks away!
