I’m the first to admit that my favorite place and time of the year is Avalon, New Jersey in the summer. However, this week I was lucky enough to do a little mid-week getaway with my mom to the Jersey shore and I was reminded of how perfect it is in the fall.
While there’s no doubt I’d take a summer day at the beach over a fall one, there are some pretty nice things about the Seven Mile Island in September. Check out the list below:
There’s no line at Uncle Bill’s Pancake House:
A trip to Avalon or Stone Harbor, NJ is not complete without unlimited coffee and a stack of pancakes from Uncle Bill’s Pancake House. The only problem is that in the summer, everyone agrees, which means getting a table will most likely mean waiting outside for 15-20 minutes. However, in September and October, you can cruise right in with five of your besties at 10:30 AM on a weekend morning and get right to deciding between pumpkin, banana nut, or chocolate chip pancakes.
You can find a spot to park on 96th Street in Stone Harbor:
^ NEVER happens from Memorial Day to Labor Day Weekend.
There’s still great shopping:
Everyone knows the best stores in Avalon, NJ are The Preppy Palm and Serendipity and guess what?! They’re STILL OPEN in the off-season. After brisk walk on the beach and breakfast with your besties, stroll in and find perfect gifts for your friends and family (or yourself). Don’t forget to pick up your Pinkly Perfect merch by the register at Serendipity! 🙂
You can be lazy:
In the summer, there’s a lot to pack into a two-day weekend and if you decide to stay inside for a couple hours reading perfect beach books or watching your latest Netflix-binge, you could actually feel weirdly guilty about not spending that time on the beach. In the off-season though, bring on Scream Queens, leggings, and board games with your friends and cozy up to a day indoors, no guilt attached.
