Best Beaches with Pink Sand

pinkly.perfect.pink.sand.beaches

Ever scroll through your Instagram feed and see the most magical beach with pink sand and perfect bright aqua waves? While we love our East Coast beaches and argue that even though the water may be slightly brown and the sand a bit grainy, there’s nothing that can compare to the beach we grew up vacationing in, we can’t help but daydream about what it would be like to lay out on pink sand and sip a pink mocktail with our besties.

Below we listed some famous beaches with pink sand and dive a bit deeper into what exactly makes the sand our favorite color. Check it out and get ready to book a trip to somewhere tropical!

Elbow Beach, Bermuda

The beaches of Bermuda are widely known for their crystal clear ocean water, but did you also know that their sand is a pale pink color? Elbow Beach, named because its shape is similar to the curve of an elbow, is a mile long beach that has pink sand and calm waves, perfect for swimming and working on that perfect tan.

Harbour Island, Bahamas

Pink sand made up of pieces of coral, calcium carbonate, broken shells, and minute rocks covers about three miles of the beautiful beaches of Harbour Island, Bahamas. Harbour Island is also home to one of the top dive sites in the world. Plan your trip to Harbour Island here!

Elafonisi Beach, Crete, Greece

(picture shown above)

Elafonisi, a tiny island in Greece, has pink sand as a result of tiny oysters named Foraminifera, who have red shells that are crushed in the sand to produce a pretty pink hue. Tourist season is July and August so book a last-minute getaway to see it in person!

Playa de Ses Illetes, Formentera, Spain

Take a boat from Ibiza to walk along the Playa de Ses Illetes in Formentera, Spain. You’ll be greeted with beautiful warm ocean water, pink sand, and various bike paths. Be careful though! While the scenery is quite stunning, the area is also known for an abundance of jelly fish!

July 4th To Do List: As Told by The Seven Guide

the.seven.guide.pinklyperfect

Written by: Brea Mealey, Founder of The Seven Guide & S E I Z E

The Fourth of July is, hands down, my favorite holiday weekend of the summer! The barbecues, fireworks, and red, white and blue everything makes for the quintessential shore weekend. To soak in all the Island has to offer this Fourth, I’ve rounded up 5 of my favorite new spots, along with tips for navigating each!

Shore Juice

#1. Kickstart your morning with a refreshing acai bowl from Shore Juice, tucked away in Harbor Square on 96th Street.  Little known fact is that Shore Juice offers a slew of bowl add-ons, like cacao nibs, goji berries, chia seeds, nutella, and pink Himalayan sea salt…none of which are listed on the menu!

PICK: The Nutty Bowl plus Pink Himalayan sea salt + a drizzle of nutella

Maryanne’s Pastry Shoppe

#2. While Maryanne’s Pastry Shoppe is a Sea Isle City veteran (since 1944!), they’re a relatively new player in the Seven Mile Island donut scene. Maryanne’s donuts, pastries, and crumb buns are made from scratch every day, with scrupulous attention to quality of ingredients (5 different types of sugar go into their donuts, alone!).

PICK: Filled Donuts, particularly the Powdered Cream

Located on the corner of 95th + 3rd.

The Watering Hull

#3. This second story restaurant and bar will instantly give you all the Island feels. With outdoor seating lined with twinkly lights, live music, and bountiful fresh seafood, The Watering Hull is our go-to spot for dinner and after-dinner drinks.

PICK: Build-Your-Own Poké Bowl with coconut quinoa, tuna, and citrus ponzu (a new addition to the summer 2017 menu!).

Located on the second level of Harbor Square.

#4. Soak in every last minute of daylight with a guided sunset Stand-Up-Paddleboard tour. Sunset SUP tours typically last 1.5 – 2 hours and leave from Harbor Outfitters’ location at 21st + The Bay. Be sure to apply some bug spray ahead of time, just in case!

Avalon Seafood

#5. An oldie but goodie, Avalon Seafood offers the best take-out seafood platters. Pick up your dinner and walk a block or two to the bay to enjoy with a chilled bottle of rosé while the sun goes down.

PICK: Lobster Roll with corn on the cob

Located on 29th + Ocean.

Pinkly Perfect Takes on Southern California

pinkly.perfect.fashion.packing

Last September, I had my dream trip booked. I was headed to Southern California for five days to bring Pinkly Perfect to the West Coast. In typical girl boss fashion, however, too much work, unforeseen shipping delays, and not enough help (my fault) put a halt on my much needed (for sales, inspiration, and relaxation) getaway.

Since deciding to launch a company, there have been so many things I’ve had to miss out on because of work. This was the first time where it spiraled into a “what am I doing with my life?” moment. And trust me, it was ugly.

This past weekend, I (finally!) got to make the trip a reality and it was the best three days of my life. Below I highlighted some of my favorite things about it:

Girlboss Rally:

In short, this was the most inspirational day of my life as a small business owner. Sophia Amoruso, founder and CEO of Girlboss, founder of Nasty Gal, and all around badass girl boss/my idol curated the conference with equally impressive speakers including Lilly Singh, Brit Morin, Michelle Lam, Tyler Haney, and so many more! Sophia started the day off with saying, “just because we’re doing it ourselves does not mean we’re doing it alone.” That sentence alone was enough to pull me out of my rut of feeling entirely alone all the time. (Tips for anyone starting a company: have someone on your team from the beginning—co-founder, investor, partner, advisory board, mentor…) I would talk more about it but then I’d be typing forever! 🙂

pinklyperfectgirlboss
Did I mention pink is their signature color? 🙂

Exploring!

When I wasn’t at the Girlboss Rally, I was doing my favorite thing ever: exploring beach towns. On my list were Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, and Balboa Island. I’ll always be a NJ shore girl at heart (08202), but the combo of palm trees, year-round warmth, and the most beautiful blue/green ocean water are unbeatable. Here are some of my pics:

BalboaIslandNewportCosmetic
Balboa Island! Spotted our Newport Cosmetic Bag there too 🙂

Driving into Newport Beach, CA!

Food:

A little getaway isn’t complete until you treat yourself! Yes, I shopped (obviously) and spent an hour or two at the spa (duh), but the food treats were the best. Below is a pic of the most delicious and beautiful cookie from B.Candy I had during my trip. We also had dinner at Broadway (Top Chef runner-up Amar Santana’s restaurant)—best dinner of my life, and probably 15 iced coffees from local coffee shops.

BCandyCookiePinklyPerfect
The most delicious and beautiful cookie! Paired with iced coffee and Pinkly Perfect’s Solana Wristlet.

Any Southern California readers out there? Let me know places I should hit on my next trip!

Pinkly’s Perfect for Packing: Spring Break 2017

pinkly.perfect.packing.

My favorite place in the world is Avalon, New Jersey. My second favorite is Southern California. This week, we’re so excited to be heading to Newport Beach to bring Pinkly Perfect to the best coast! While we’ll be taking the entire line for show, I’m personally packing my favorite pieces that are perfect additions to any traveling whether you’re on your way to Spring Break or planning a summer getaway. Below are our recs:

Pinkly Perfect Montauk Tote, $26

Perfect for: My carry-on

Shop.Pinkly.Perfect

The fact is I never go anywhere without my Pinkly Perfect Montauk Tote. For this trip, I’ll be bringing my laptop and notebook to do work on the plane (no hours off when you’re a boss!), along with an emergency change of clothes and minimal makeup. You’ll be surprised by how much you can fit in our best-seller!

Margate Leggings, $22

Perfect for: Travel outfit

PinklyPerfectMargateLeggings

I will 100% be rocking my Margate Leggings on the plane ride to and from LA. I find sitting on a plane for hours next to strangers to be highly uncomfortable so any little bit of comfort I can add to make the trip more enjoyable is crucial. We love our leggings because they’re mostly cotton so they’re super soft and not too restricting (just in case we really decide to treat ourselves on vacation 🙂 ).

Newport Cosmetic Bag, $20

Perfect for: Makeup

PinklyPerfectNewportBagSummerReminders

Pick up a Newport Cosmetic Bag to stash your makeup and girly essentials. It’s so sturdy and it stands on its own, which is perfect for anywhere makeup application. We’ll be bringing our Summer Reminders bag since the pink ice cream cones and flamingos will fit perfectly with the SoCal vibe.

Cape Cod Pouch, On Sale for $12

Perfect for: Roaming the resort

Cotton.Pink.Pouch

If you’re headed to a resort any time soon, do not forget a small, casual clutch you can use while roaming the premises. If you’re hitting the gym, the spa, or just walking around to get more acquainted, you’ll want something you can toss your room key, cell, and credit cards in just in case. We recommend our Cape Code Pouch, now on sale for $12.

Polar Bear Plunges Across the Jersey Shore

history.of.the.polar.bear.plunge

The Polar Bear Plunge, a tradition where people head to their favorite seaside oasis in the winter to jump in freezing cold water, is not something that was ever on my bucket list. However, every year, I am fascinated to see so many people decked out in swimsuits and costumes running into the bitter ocean while I’m happily curled up in leggings and a sweatshirt in my heated NYC apartment. Instead of sitting behind my computer wondering why this seems to be such a popular event, I decided to dive (!) a little deeper into this zany tradition.

Turns out the Polar Bear Plunge actually started in Canada in the early 1900s as a way to celebrate the New Year. Now, Polar Bear Plunges are celebrated around the world, including the Netherlands, the UK, and of course the United States, as a way to raise money for charitable causes. Below are some Jersey shore versions of the Polar Bear Plunge and what causes they support.

Sea Isle City, NJ:

Sea Isle City, NJ is celebrating their 2017 Polar Bear Weekend from February 17th until February 19th. Included in the weekend is a costume contest followed by the plunge followed by a post-plunge party. There’s also a 5K run and fun walk supporting Autism, plus a cornhole tournament.

The Wildwoods, NJ:

The Wildwoods hosted their annual Polar Bear Plunge on January 14th and raised over $390,000 to benefit Special Olympics New Jersey. There were 1,118 brave plungers who were required to raise at least $100 in pledges while donations were accepted onsite.

Long Beach Island, NJ:

LBI hosted their Super Plunge on February 5th with a “warm-up party” after including free coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. All proceeds went to benefit the St. Francis Community Center, which offers programs and services meeting the needs of residents of Ocean County, and Southern Regional High School Swim Teams.

Asbury Park, NJ:

Asbury Park celebrates their Sons of Ireland plunge every New Year’s Day with roughly 1,000 participants and 3,000 spectators. Every year, the organization selects a different beneficiary to receive the money raised. This year, Shore House, an organization that aids adults with mental illness, and Stephy’s Place, a support center for people facing loss, were the recipients of the donations.
