The Fourth of July is, hands down, my favorite holiday weekend of the summer! The barbecues, fireworks, and red, white and blue everything makes for the quintessential shore weekend. To soak in all the Island has to offer this Fourth, I’ve rounded up 5 of my favorite new spots, along with tips for navigating each!
#1. Kickstart your morning with a refreshing acai bowl from Shore Juice, tucked away in Harbor Square on 96th Street. Little known fact is that Shore Juice offers a slew of bowl add-ons, like cacao nibs, goji berries, chia seeds, nutella, and pink Himalayan sea salt…none of which are listed on the menu!
PICK: The Nutty Bowl plus Pink Himalayan sea salt + a drizzle of nutella
Maryanne’s Pastry Shoppe
#2. While Maryanne’s Pastry Shoppe is a Sea Isle City veteran (since 1944!), they’re a relatively new player in the Seven Mile Island donut scene. Maryanne’s donuts, pastries, and crumb buns are made from scratch every day, with scrupulous attention to quality of ingredients (5 different types of sugar go into their donuts, alone!).
PICK: Filled Donuts, particularly the Powdered Cream
Located on the corner of 95th + 3rd.
The Watering Hull
#3. This second story restaurant and bar will instantly give you all the Island feels. With outdoor seating lined with twinkly lights, live music, and bountiful fresh seafood, The Watering Hull is our go-to spot for dinner and after-dinner drinks.
PICK: Build-Your-Own Poké Bowl with coconut quinoa, tuna, and citrus ponzu (a new addition to the summer 2017 menu!).
Located on the second level of Harbor Square.
#4. Soak in every last minute of daylight with a guided sunset Stand-Up-Paddleboard tour. Sunset SUP tours typically last 1.5 – 2 hours and leave from Harbor Outfitters’ location at 21st + The Bay. Be sure to apply some bug spray ahead of time, just in case!
#5. An oldie but goodie, Avalon Seafood offers the best take-out seafood platters. Pick up your dinner and walk a block or two to the bay to enjoy with a chilled bottle of rosé while the sun goes down.
PICK: Lobster Roll with corn on the cob
Located on 29th + Ocean.
