Behind the Scenes at Pinkly Perfect’s Fall Shoot

Nothing I love more than photoshoot day at Pinkly Perfect!

Even though by the time we’re shooting our latest products, I’ve already been staring at them for months and months, something about seeing them under bright lights and captured by a professional photographer makes them come to life in a whole new way.

Yesterday, after a very busy weekend closing out festival season, I headed over to Church Street Studios, LLC in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to shoot Pinkly Perfect’s Fall/Holiday capsule collection.

This was Pinkly Perfect’s third shoot and third time at Church Street Studios with Makeup by Emily Dimant and model Lauren O’Brien from Expressions Agency in Philadelphia and I LOVE the team of very talented women we’ve created and stuck with.

I’m not giving alllll the details away but wanted to give my blog readers a little sneak peek into some behind the scenes shots from yesterday’s shoot! To see more of them, follow us on Instagram and Facebook, where we’ll be announcing as soon as our fall line goes live on our website!

We don’t like school either!

Girl Boss of the Week: Emily Dimant, Makeup by Emily Dimant

Emily Dimant is one impressive Girl Boss. From getting licensed at age 18 to running a successful makeup business all while in school full-time, Emily is a great example of making your dreams happen. We sat down with Emily to learn about how she got started in the makeup industry, her biggest career challenge, and her advice for high school girls.

PP: Thanks for sitting with us, Emily! Tell us about what attracted you to the makeup industry.

Emily: I have always been a painter my whole life. In addition to makeup, I am also an illustrator, focusing on fashion and beauty illustration. I am happy to combine my love for both art and makeup.  I was also always a girly-girl! I loved playing with Barbies as a child and I always appreciated their fashion and beauty aesthetic. I decided to become a Pennsylvania licensed cosmetologist when I was still in high school, so I attended a vo-tech school half the day, and public school the other half. I was also working at a salon by age 15 getting my foot in the door of the beauty industry. After two years of hard work, I was licensed by the age of 18!

PP: That’s incredible to be so accomplished at such a young age! What was the best piece of advice you received in terms of working for yourself?

Emily: Never undercut or sell yourself short! Your rates and pricing should always be what you believe you deserve for the work you are doing. Do lots of research and be confident in how much you are charging, no matter what you are doing!

PP: Absolutely. What are your favorite types of shoots to work on or clients to have?

Emily: I absolutely love beauty and skincare shoots, so I can see my work in a high definition camera up close and personal. This allows me to critique my work and make myself a better makeup artist. My favorite types of clients are the ones who sit down in my chair, and say “do whatever, I trust you!” That makes my job easy and rewarding.

PP: I bet! But I assume there are also some challenges. What has been your biggest career challenge and how did you overcome it?

Emily: Definitely that I am a full-time student while running my own business. It is 100% possible through hard work and proper time management. I started this business when I was 18, and it is very difficult for people to take you seriously when you are young. I had to prove everyone wrong by showing that I am mature and professional. My clients always questioned my age when I was doing their makeup, but I showed them that age does not matter, but talent does!

PP: Definitely! I remember at our first shoot, I was so impressed with how young you were! What have you learned about yourself since you started?

Emily: I can handle anything. When a client is being rude or mean, I do not let it get to me! Sometimes people have bad days and a makeup artist’s job is to cheer them up by making them feel beautiful.  I have also learned how to be more understanding and appreciative of everyone in the customer service industry.

PP: What is your favorite makeup trend?

Emily: I love dewy and glowing skin. Clean, fresh skin is so in and it all starts with good skincare. I love using cream products all over the skin for that dewy look. Cream foundations, cream highlighters, and cream blushes applied with fingers just always look so amazing!

PP: Now you have me wanting to head to Sephora and try it out! Finally, what message would you give to high school girls in terms of beauty and confidence?

Emily: You do not need makeup to feel beautiful. Remember, trends will pass and while you may think that contouring is important now, you will realize how silly it is one day! I do not wear makeup regularly, because I feel comfortable in my skin! Makeup can clog your pores and cause breakouts. It’s super fun to wear out at night but it is not necessary every day. Your skin will thank you! You are beautiful without it and anyone who loves you will agree with that!

Pinkly Perfect and Younqiue Partner to Celebrate Summer

Yay! Summer’s right around the corner and Pinkly Perfect is celebrating by partnering with Younique for a perfect giveaway program.

Until supplies last, if you purchase $50 or more from Lesley’s Younique business, you’ll also receive a FREE (yes, free!) Pinkly Perfect Newport Cosmetic Bag ($18 value). We love the Newport Cosmetic bag because it is so big and durable that you can carry everything you need for a perfect beach vacation (my friend even uses hers to store her iPad Mini!). The seahorse screen print is so cute and last but certainly not least, it’s made in the USA.

If you haven’t heard of Younique, now is definitely the time to look through all their perfect products. I first got hooked on their Beachfront Bronzer which you can buy here but I also love their Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes, Stiff Upper Lip Stain, and Splurge Cream Shadow.

They also carry Beachfront Self Tanning Spray which we can’t wait to try! (Especially since it’s been pretty tough to get any sort of natural tan this spring!)

So stop reading this blog, look through Younique, and cross your fingers you purchase in time to receive a Pinkly Perfect Newport Cosmetic Bag!

Incorporating Pink Into Your Prom Look

I’m not quite sure how this happened but somehow we’re already approaching Prom season. If you’re at an all-girls high school, now’s the time to make sure you don’t miss any parties so you can meet a cute guy to avoid trying to get set up. And if you’re at a co-ed school, (I guess?) you’re hoping you’re not the only one of your friends that doesn’t get asked. While the date is super important to having fun at prom, the more crucial factor is to make sure your entire ensemble’s on point.

For my Junior Prom, I decided to make my own dress so I had a much easier time finding and rocking the perfect color pink. But if you’re going the simpler (read: smarter) route and buying off the rack, finding a pink that isn’t too pale or too neon or too bubble-gum that you can envision working with your soon-to-be spray tan is really difficult. That’s why trying to incorporate the color pink into your accessories may actually work out better for you. See some tips below:

In my opinion, the most fun way to rock some pink at prom this year is through costume jewelry. You can also save yourself some cash this way if you buy a more simple gown and dress it up with some jewelry from Bauble Bar or H&M. If your dress’s a solid color, think about picking out this rose gold necklace from H&M or these pink and gold statement earrings from Bauble Bar to really impress your date and friends. The best part is that this jewelry can last you all summer, dressing up a plain tank before you meet up with your friends on the boardwalk!

For the gals with dates, look forward to receiving a beautiful bouquet or corsage picked out just for you by your date’s mom. Because boys in high school are clueless, they will most likely ask you what color your dress is. (I’m pretty sure they don’t actually know why they’re asking you this question, so you have some leeway with how you respond.) If you plan on rocking black, navy, grey, or white, pink flowers would complement the look perfectly! So tell your boy the color and add in “It’d look great with pink!” and cross your fingers that he’ll show up with a tiny bouquet of beautiful pink roses or a corsage tied together with pink ribbon.

Almost as fun as picking out the perfect prom dress is finding the perfect pair of shoes to go along with your look. Instead of choosing shoes that go with your dress, pick out a pair that make your dress! The above pink satin shoes with crystal accents from Betsey Johnson would look perfect or maybe even these champagne pink Betsey Johnson’s sandals. Either way, you’ll look great at prom and can re-wear them if you have a summer wedding or formal graduation party to attend!

Another great and perhaps the easiest way to incorporate pink into your prom look is through makeup and nail polish. Most likely you’re going to want your lips to be a shade of pink or red anyway so why not go all out and choose something like “Conceited” lipstick from Younique. If you like something a bit more subtle, go for Younique’s “Loveable” lip gloss. For nails, pick up ColorClub’s “Endless” nail polish for a perfect shade that will complement any color and last you all weekend!

Summer’s Fading but Your Tan Doesn’t Have to

Labor Day Weekend is probably the most bittersweet time of the summer. It’s so fun because it’s a long weekend so everyone is able to escape from school and enjoy the holiday by celebrating at their favorite seaside town with their friends and family. But if you’re like me and live in that seaside town all summer, it can get really nostalgic because you know it’s your last weekend before packing up the house and acknowledging that the next morning, summer will just be a memory.

There’s a lot to be sad about this weekend like leaving your friends, going back to school, going back to work, and abandoning the idea that “free time” meant “beach time.” So with all the wonderful things you are giving up, you also have to give up that perfect tan you worked so hard at achieving all summer long.

This is a rough concept because no one likes to look pale. Your tan went along with your mood and made you look healthier and livelier so the idea of watching that fade away with no control is super depressing. But lucky for you, I found a great bronzer that can help us all extend the life of summer as we keep moving forward into September.

I’ve tried SO many bronzers because I am naturally super pale and hate it. But my favorite one is Younique’s Beachfront Bronzer. You may know the company’s super popular 3D Fiber Lash Mascara (which is also amazing), but I was most pleased to finally find a bronzer that didn’t make me look orange and/or shiny two hours later. The bronzer is half matte and half shimmer, which gives you a subtle glow to bring out your inner radiance. It’s a little pricey ($32), but is totally worth it because Younique offers “The Love It” Guarantee, which means within 14 days of delivery, you can return it for a full value credit or refund!

Trust me, girls, this bronzer is for sure a summer ending necessity! You can also look through some of their other products here. Buy it and at least once summer’s over, your tan won’t be! 🙂

Perfect Pink Nail Polish

I’ve learned a lot of wonderful life lessons from my mom. One of which is to never leave the house without your nails done. This may seem silly (and it certainly is to an extent), but it’s really so important. You never know who you’re going to meet and it’s definitely difficult to take a girl with random chips of mint green polish on her nails seriously.

Because this idea has been engraved in my brain for years, I always make sure to have my nails covered in color (toes and hands). And in the summer, I absolutely love scouring the polish displays at my favorite salon to find the perfect shade of pink, which can be quite a difficult task due to the many options that are almost there but are either too orange, too purple, too translucent, too milky, too red, too wrong.

However, a couple weeks ago I FOUND IT. The most perfect shade of pink that screams summer in a bottle. Feeling like Goldilocks, I can confidently say that this color is just enough pink, just enough neon, with a perfect hint of coral to make you so happy every time you look at it. Plus, the touch of neon also makes you look tan—yay! Here it is, girls, my perfect summer shade of pink: Color Club’s Flamingo.

Buy it here and become obsessed like me and don’t forget to follow me on Instagram @pinklyperfect_inc 🙂
